Due to our present circumstances and we have sold all but 1 of
our rabbits for the time being. We have 2 children, who are very young and are expecting our third child in the fall so we felt that at this point in
our lives it was best to put off breeding rabbits for a couple of years. We fully intend to start up breeding rabbits again once our children are a bit
older. We have not forgotten our love of rabbits and the hobby of raising them and look forward to the day we will be actively breeding them again.
Please be sure to check back with us in the future!
Sincerely,
Ruth and Patrick Loewen
We are a small rabbitry located in Southern Manitoba Canada.
Our rabbitry is housed in an 8 x 12 foot, heated and insulated shed, so we breed our rabbits year round.
When we are finished building our cages, we will have an 24 hole capacity. As of January 2006, Starlit
Meadows is an ARBA registered rabbitry. We are both members in good standing of ARBA and the Manitoba Rabbit
Fanciers. We were previously located in Alberta but have since moved to Manitoba.
My husband and
I breed our rabbits using the ARBA standard of perfection as our guide, and are sincerely dedicated to
producing rabbits with quality Type, Temperament, Fur, and Color. We are committed to improving the
quality of Mini Rex in colors such as Chocolate, Blue, White, Black, and soon Lilac.
Our breeding program is unique in that we never leave the babies in the cage with the
mother. Once they are born we remove the nest box and then bring the doe to feed them once every
night. Over the years I have found this to make the rabbits bond to people, making them better
tempered animals. I have also found that it greatly decreases the mortality rate and gives you
more control over what the mother does while she is with her babies.
On this site I have posted info about breeding rabbits,
nutrition, understanding rabbit behaviour, showing rabbits, and also a buyers guide to choosing the perfect rabbit. I plan on expanding the
resource of information I offer over the next year, so check back for changes and updates. I soon
hope to offer information on "if your rabbit gets sick", "litter training" and much more.... Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy your
stay.
